Hello Kitty was created by Shintaro Tsuji, the founder of the Japanese company Sanrio, known for making toys and cute characters. His goal was to design a character that everyone would love. He drew hundreds of sketches, testing different ideas, until he found the perfect look for the charming little kitten.
Today, the Hello Kitty brand brings in over a billion dollars in annual revenue. You can find Hello Kitty on almost everything—from T-shirts and plush toys to toasters and even computer software!
Over the years, Hello Kitty’s world has grown to include her family and many friends, like My Melody the bunny (from the popular anime Onegai My Melody), Fifi the sheep, and her twin sister, Mimmy.
