The Story Behind Venom

Interestingly, Venom wasn’t originally intended to be a comic book character. The idea for Spider-Man’s black suit came from a fan, Randy Schueller, and Marvel purchased it for $220. The black suit made its debut in May 1984 across several issues, paving the way for Venom’s creation.

Venom’s full debut in The Amazing Spider-Man comic came four years later, as the result of the symbiotic bond between the alien Klyntar and journalist Eddie Brock.
